A sexual assault was reported last night on Norwich University campus, and a 24-year-old nursing student was charged with sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct, according to Northfield police.
Norwich officials reached by email provided no details regarding the case.
“We cannot comment on investigations,” Norwich’s provost, Karen Gaines, responded in an email to The Guidon. “We are following all policies and procedures of the University.”
Pamela Koppelmann, the university’s chief compliance officer, also declined to discuss details of the case. However, in an email to the student newspaper, she explained how the school handles such cases.
“Whenever an incident such as sexual assault is reported at Norwich University, our first priority is making sure the individual reporting … and our campus community is safe,” she wrote.
Daniel Owusu-Larbi, of Agawan, Massachusetts, was arrested and issued a flash citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court’s Criminal Division on Dec. 20.
This is at least the second sexual assault case reported on campus since Norwich’s 2023-2024 academic year, according to Northfield Police and Norwich Public Safety. From 2021 to 2023, there were 16 criminal sex offense cases reported in residence halls, according to Norwich Public Safety’s 2024 annual security and fire safety report.
The Guidon also emailed the school’s office of communications, the head of student housing, the dean of students, Norwich University Public Safety, the arresting officer, and Owusu-Larbi for comments. None, however, have responded.
