Men’s Ice Hockey: Atherton, Gaudette Earn Weekly Honors
MARSHFIELD. Mass.- The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) announced its weekly award winners Monday afternoon where two members of the Norwich University Men’s Ice Hockey team were honored.
Senior netminder Drennen Atherton (Winter Haven, Fla.) was named NEHC Goalie of the Week. On Jan. 6 against Elmira, Atherton made 24 saves on 25 Soaring Eagle shots. Which he followed up with a stellar 36 save performance against top ranked Hobart for what Head Coach Cam Ellsworth called an “unbelievable performance”.
This is the third time this season the NEHC has recognized Atherton who ranks eighth in Division III in Goals Against Average (1.47) and 15th in Save Percentage (.937).
Also recognized by the Conference was senior forward Brady Gaudette (Braintree, Mass.) who received honor roll. Gaudette notched the lone assist on the game winning goal against Elmira, in addition to a two-point performance against Hobart including the game winning power play goal.
The victories from Friday and Saturday put the Cadets in first place in the NEHC with an overall record of 11-3-1 and a 7-1-1 conference record.
