NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich University Men’s Ice Hockey team came up short against Curry 3-1 Saturday evening at Kreitzberg Arena, earning runner up in the annual Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament.

It was a scoreless affair after the first period with senior Drennen Atherton (Winter Haven, Fla.) making 12 saves as the Cadets struggled to establish offensive zone time. Despite the Colonels’ onslaught, Norwich broke through first in the second period with a powerplay goal by sophomore Clark Kerner (Kansas City, Kan.). Kerner and freshman Johnny Johnson (Napierville, Ill.) earned spots on the All-Tournament team.

The pressure from Curry yielded results early in the third. Timmy Kent tied the game at one five minutes in, which was followed by Gage Dill converting on a 5-on-3 1:32 later. It was the Colonels’ lone goal on their six-man advantage opportunities.

“I’m disappointed with the result,” said Head Coach Cam Ellsworth. “I didn’t love the start, we lacked discipline and it cost us.”

The Cadets will resume New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) play when they host Elmira on Jan. 6 at 7 PM.
