GENEVA, N.Y.- The Norwich University Women’s Ice Hockey team got their first victory of the new year by defeating William Smith 2-1 Saturday afternoon at The Cooler.

The game was scoreless after the first period despite a 13-5 shot advantage for the Cadets. Norwich would get on the board first late in the second period courtesy of junior Neris Archambault (Pepperell, Mass.), her first of the season. The Herons would tie the game 15 seconds later making it a tie game after 40 minutes.

The Cadets kept hammering away, and eventually senior Ann-Frederique Guay (St-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Que.) broke the tie late in the third with her 98th career point.

“Ann-Fred was a catalyst all game long,” said Head Coach Sophie Leclerc Doherty. “I’m proud of the resiliency we showed and can’t wait to have another opportunity to compete next weekend.”

To kick off next weekend’s slate the Cadets will travel to UMass Boston on Friday Jan 13. Puck drop is set for 6 PM.
