WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass- In their first meet of the new semester, the Norwich University Wrestling team had six players reach the podium during Saturday’s Williams Open at Lasell Gym.

Junior Mason Sprinkel (Bel Aire, Md.) picked up right where he left off. After placing first in December’s RIT Invitational, Sprinkel placed second in the 285-pound class with two victories by pin before being defeated in the championship in a 12-9 decision.

Additionally, the Cadets had two wrestlers achieve third place finishes in their respective classes. In the 125-pound bracket sophomore Jabari Pinkney (Jessup, Md.) also picked up two wins by fall on his way to winning the third-place bracket with a 9-5 decision. Meanwhile, sophomore Simon Taraska took home third in the 184-pound draw by pinning junior Zachary Vazquez (Mico, Texas) in the final match.

Alongside Vazquez, there were two other fourth place finishes. In the 157-pound class, senior Cam Wooldridge (Roanoke, Va.) secured five victories by fall before succumbing to a 5-3 decision in favor of Western New England’s Cam Hines. Lastly, sophomore Dylan King (Millsboro, Del.)  recorded two victories by fall along with a major decision before dropping an 8-3 decision to Roger Williams’s Chris Tringali.

“It was nice to see six guys get on the podium,” said Head Coach Alex Whitney. “We are starting to turn the corner with the young talent on our group, and we will continue to make the necessary adjustments.”

The Cadets will look to build on this weekend’s momentum when they travel to Coast Guard for a tri-meet with the Bears and New England College on Saturday Jan 14 which commences at 11 AM.
