Those in need of professional attire for job interviews, internships and other social events in the business world will have a chance to refresh their wardrobes next week — free of charge.
Students can browse hundreds of garments, including suits, blazers, wool coats, shoes, and more, at the third annual Dressing for Success event, on Monday, Feb. 9, and Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Plumley Armory.
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. is reserved for seniors both days. Students can also bring their resumes for review, participate in mock interviews, and get professional headshots taken by a photographer.
The event is organized by Women Kicking Glass, a group of Norwich alumnae and others formed in 2023 to mark the 50th anniversary of women’s history on campus.
Participation in the event has risen steadily, according to event organizer and alumna Diane Scolaro: 380 students took clothing home last year, up from about 100 the prior year. The 2025 event featured 25 racks of clothing. “Students can find outfits for internships, job interviews or even the trips to Washington, D.C., that many take over spring break for policy work,” Scolero said.
Tina Christiano, an alumna from the class of 1983, came up with the idea to collect formal wear for students who may not otherwise have access due to cost or other barriers.
“While I was a student at Norwich, I did not have the financial means to purchase professional clothing,” Christiano said. “I remember hand-washing my clothes in the bathroom sink just to get by. That experience stayed with me and became the motivation to ensure that no Norwich student would have to face an interview, internship, or professional opportunity feeling unprepared because of a lack of resources.”
As a follow up event in September, Women Kicking Glass will be collecting formal wear to offer ahead of ball season. Register for the event here.
