Norwich University is known for being a strict dry campus, but holidays like Saint Patrick’s Day still brings extra attention to how students celebrate. Instead of ignoring the holiday, Norwich focuses on encouraging students to celebrate safely and responsibly. As this Irish holiday arrives each year, the university highlights its wellness programs to help students make smart decisions and stay safe.
A big part of that effort comes from the university’s wellness programming, which supports students’ mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Some recent activities include therapy dog visits, mindfulness workshops, yoga sessions, and Random Acts of Kindness events. These programs give students ways to relax, manage stress, and build a positive community on campus.
Norwich also offers programs that focus on important health topics like suicide prevention, substance abuse prevention, and alcohol awareness. Alcohol awareness training gives students a private and confidential space to think about their own drinking habits. During the training, students learn about the risks of alcohol use, how to recognize unhealthy patterns, and when and where to get help for themselves or a friend.
For students who violate campus substance policies, Norwich also runs an Alcohol and Drug Education Program through the Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC). The program includes three required one-hour sessions. Students complete a substance use assessment using BASICS/CASICS guidelines, may be given reflection assignments, and meet with a counselor again to review their results and talk about healthier choices moving forward.
Norwich University wishes everyone a responsible but fun Irish Holiday. Show responsibilities of being a Norwich Cadet this coming up Tuesday, and if you feel the need for support, contact the Norwich Wellness center at [email protected] or its programs.
