NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The sixth ranked Norwich University Women’s Ice Hockey team continued their winning ways Friday night with a decisive 6-0 victory over Salem State at Kreitzberg Arena, where they outshot the Vikings 51-7.

The Cadets struck early and often, scoring just 20 seconds into the game, as senior Ingrid Holstad-Berge (Stavanger, Norway) broke the ice on the first shot of the contest for either side. Holstad-Berge would also add an assist in the game. Later in the opening frame, Ally Lague (Barre, Vt.) would bang home a rebound off an opportunity created by sophomore Taylor Girouard (Burlington, Mass.) giving Norwich the 2-0 advantage after the first.

In the second period senior Ann – Frederique Guay (St-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Que.) stole the show tallying three points in a 1:59 span. Guay scored two goals in 42 seconds late in the period then added an assist on Lague’s second goal of the game on the powerplay. In the third, freshman Olivia Boyer (Saint Paul, Minn.) registered the sixth Cadet goal with freshman Rylie McIntyre (Brunswick, Maine) earning her second assist. On the back-end, Morgan Tefft (Redwood City, Calif.) also recorded two assists, and freshman Jillian Wexler (Plainsboro, N.J.) earned her first career win stopping all seven shots faced for a shutout.

“This was a great effort all around,” said Head Coach Sophie Leclerc Doherty, “led by Wexler in her debut in goal all the way to our senior captain Guay whose relentless effort was rewarded with two goals.”

The Cadets will look to sweep the week Saturday afternoon when they host Southern Maine at 3 PM.
