GORHAM, Maine- The tenth ranked Norwich University Men’s Ice Hockey Team got back on the winning track with a 5-1 victory over Southern Maine Saturday afternoon at the USM Ice Arena.

The Cadets got the scoring going more than halfway through the first period with sophomore Patrick Delvecchio (Mississauga, On.) scoring his first goal of the season with senior Philip Elgstam (Stockholm, Sweden) getting the lone helper. Delvecchio would return the favor as he assisted on Elgstam’s last minute goal along with junior Patrick O’Neal (Indiana, Pa.) to give Norwich the 2-0 lead at first intermission.

The Huskies made it a one goal game late in the second period. However, two minutes into the final frame the Cadets regained the two goal lead courtesy of senior Brady Gaudette (Braintree, Mass.). Gaudette scored again on Norwich’s lone powerplay of the afternoon later in the period where Elgstam earned his second assist of the game. Elgstam would score another goal for good measure where O’Neal and junior Joe Nagle (Weymouth, Mass.) would earn their second assists.

“I am very happy with the result. We got some great efforts tonight to cap off a good weekend,” Head Coach Cam Ellsworth said after the game.

The tenth ranked Cadets will look to make a statement in their next meeting as they play host to Plattsburgh State in a rematch of the FirstLight Shootout Championship game Tuesday Dec. 6 at 7 PM inside Kreitzberg Arena.
