WINTHROP, Mass. – The Norwich University men’s basketball team saw a pair of players land on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Weekly Honor Roll, as Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.) and Jalen Olivero (Holyoke, Mass.) earned accolades after a 2-1 week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The first week of competition back from Thanksgiving break saw the Cadets extend its winning streak to six after scooping up victories over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon and New England College, with the latter coming in the opening game of the 2022 Ed Hockenbury Classic.  Norwich fell in the title game against Bridgewater State University.

Lewis Jr. averaged 18.0 points and 9.7 rebounds while shooting 54.3% (19-35) from the floor across three games.  After scoring 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting in just 27 minutes during Tuesday’s 94-69 road win at NVU-Lyndon, Lewis Jr. registered a 17-point, 13-rebound performance against 2023 incoming GNAC member NEC on Saturday.

The senior closed out the week by earning Hockenbury All-Tournament honors following 17 points, 11 boards and four assists in the setback to Bridgewater State, shooting 69.6% (16-23) from the FT line during the two-day event.

Olivero, meanwhile, was also critical to Norwich’s 2-1 stretch, which was tipped off by the junior’s career-best 26-point performance on 11-22 shooting at NVU-Lyndon to go with five steals.  Olivero followed that up against the Pilgrims with 19 points, including a 9-10 mark from the line, to lead Norwich off the bench in the 66-56 win.  Olivero was responsible for seven points in an 11-0 run to close the game to give the Cadets both the lead and the victory.

The junior wrapped up his week with a 15-point showcase against the Bears, knocking down three treys.  For the week, Olivero averaged 20.0 points on a 44.0% clip from the floor and 86.7% from the stripe, while also maintaining marks of 5.0 caroms, 3.7 steals, and 1.7 assists.

The honors mark the first this season for both Lewis Jr. and Olivero, and the third for Norwich this campaign, after Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) was tapped to the GNAC Honor Roll for weeks one and two.

Lewis Jr., Olivero, and the Norwich men’s basketball team will return to the hardwood tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. for their GNAC opener against Rivier University in Nashua, N.H.
