NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) announced their weekly award winners Friday afternoon. Headlining the honorees from the previous week is Norwich University junior Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Md.) who was named Wrestler of the Week.

At the RIT Invitational on Dec. 3, Sprinkel entered the 285-pound bracket as the sixth seed. He would go on to win the draw by picking up falls against the top three seeds in the heavyweight division.

Sprinkel opened the season eighth in the NEWA’s preseason rankings in the 285-pound class. Previous notable performances include a fourth-place finish at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 12, and a victory in a dual meet with WPI on Nov. 20.

“Sprinkel was consistently working his tail off all offseason,” Head Coach Alex Whitney said. “He has a lot of room to grow and we are just starting to scratch the surface of his potential.”

Sprinkel will look to start the New Year strong when Cadet Wrestling participates in the Williams Open on Jan. 7.
