Men’s Swimming & Diving: Adlianitski, Stark compete in CSCAA Open Water National Championship
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Martin Adlianitski (Cheshire, Conn.) and Benjamin Stark (Montverde, Fla.) closed out a successful 2022 calendar year for the Norwich University men’s swimming & diving team on Sunday, Dec. 18, participating in the sixth CSCAA Collegiate Open Water National Championship at Biscayne Bay Campus on Florida International University.
In a field of 83 swimmers in the 5K race, Adlianitski led the Cadet effort with a 52nd-place finish behind a 1:00:30.58 time with a pace of 19:29. Stark followed with a spot in 68th, clocking in a 1:02:34.01 stint on a 20:09 clip. The pair saw action against swimmers from high-major institutions, including the University of Cincinnati, Villanova University, and Florida State University.
Raul Briceno of Mars Hill University placed first, posting a 54:37.54 finish with a 17:35 pace.
This season marked the first time that Norwich has sent participants to the Open Water National Championship. Adlianitski and Stark swam four laps around the course, starting in front of campus, past the mouth of Oleta River, into Biscayne Bay and back.
The Norwich men’s swimming & diving team, along with the women’s squad, will return to the water on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, for a noon dual meet against Colby-Sawyer College. The competition will mark Senior Day for both programs at Goodyear Pool.
