Women’s Ice Hockey: Baptiste’s Four Goals Tame Huskies
NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The sixth ranked Norwich University Women’s Ice Hockey team completed a perfect week with a resounding 8-1 victory over Southern Maine Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets were a perfect five for five in powerplay opportunities. The first of which came three minutes into the contest when senior Mikah Baptiste (Ottawa, On.) wired home a one timer for her tenth of the season, and first of four goals on the afternoon. Baptiste also received an assist on a goal by Ann-Frederique Guay (St-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Que.) just under two minutes later, the first of four points for Guay who currently sits at 96 career points.
Norwich took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission after Baptiste’s second powerplay goal, which was quickly followed by the hat trick marker two minutes into the middle frame. Twenty seconds later freshman Emma Morel (Tournon, France) tallied her first collegiate goal. The Cadets would get two more goals on the man advantage before intermission, one from graduate student Morgan Tefft (Redwood City, Calif.) and Baptiste’s fourth of the contest out of a net mouth scramble. Tefft would add another goal in the third.
“We are really happy with our level of competitiveness tonight and the 60-minute effort,” said Head Coach Sophie Leclerc Doherty after the game. “Though Mikah’s line was fantastic, you could argue that our biggest strength tonight was our depth and waves of attack.”
The sixth ranked Cadets will look to keep building momentum into the East-West Classic as they travel to Trinity College Tuesday Dec. 6 for a 7:00 duel with the Bantams.
